The Great Ocean Road is a 118 mile highway that runs along the south coast of Australia. The views of rolling surf, rocks and cliffs are incredible. We stopped in Lorne for a walk on the beach before the cliffs made reaching the beach impossible. A few surfers were spotted waiting for the perfect wave. Another cliff town, Apollo, had lots of shops and retaurants. Steaming fish and chips followed by gelato at Dooley's award winning gelateria. Then on to Great Way National Park to see the iconic twelve apostles. A rare day of calm winds and warm temperatures made the view even more amazing.
Rachel had made arrangements for an overnight stay in Bimbi Park, a campground that also offers cabins. Dinner on the barbee followed by marshmallow and star gazing at the Southern Cross.
Koalas casually munched leaves in the eucalyptus trees above us and a large kangaroo came out to graze close by. The air had a wonderful eucalyptus fragrance.
Australia at its best
